Canyon
The Grand Canyon is jaw-droppingly weird, extraordinary, and other-worldly. When we returned from a trip to see it, I found it quite impossible to paint. Everything I tried fell far short of the real thing, nowhere near the true impact.
Years later, I drew on the experience and painted this, an impression of the canyons we saw, without trying to reproduce the details. I believe it worked much better this way, when I found I could convey the sense of the place, the size and the splendour, the colours and the heat.
